A Life Dedicated to Odisha's Living Heritage
Dr. Susant Kumar Sahoo is a Heritage Revivalist, Researcher and Social Reformer engaged in the preservation, revival and promotion of Odisha's cultural and spiritual heritage. Awarded his Ph.D. from Berhampur University in 1998, he has pursued structured heritage research and grassroots cultural initiatives since 2014, focusing with special dedication on the Jagannatha heritage of the Chilika region.
His work combines historical documentation and physical site restoration with living cultural continuity, community empowerment, youth education, and institutional stability. Through a decade of sustained effort, Dr. Sahoo has spearheaded the revival of historical sanctuaries such as the island of Kankanashikhari in Chilika Lake and the Harihareshwar Temple at Nairi. Historically, these sanctuaries served as vital, secretive havens where the divine idols of Lord Jagannatha were sheltered during times of invasion and external peril.

Dr. Sahoo's methodology bridges the gap between scholarly research and living community celebration. He has revived historical traditions including the annual Jala Ratha Yatra (floating chariot procession on Chilika Lake) and the Chilka Arati ceremony, while providing educational scholarships to rural students through the Bharat Charan Sahoo Medha Bruti and coordinating a network of 31 rural Jagannatha temples under the Mandira Samanwoya Bikash Parishad.
