The Sri Jagannatha Mahotschab is a major cultural and spiritual celebration initiated in 2018 at the Kankanashikhari heritage sanctuary. The inaugural Mahotschab was opened by the Gajapati Maharaja of Puri, lending it significant cultural authority and validation.

- Biswashanti Maha Yajna — a grand fire ritual for universal peace
- Chilka Arati — a distinctive ceremony honouring Chilika Lake as a life-giving presence

- Community meals (Prasad distribution) for thousands of devotees
Chilka Arati: Honouring Chilika as Mother
During the Mahotschab, the Chilka Arati is performed at the Kankanashikhari shore. This ceremony reflects the cultural understanding of Chilika Lake as a life-giving presence that supports fishing, biodiversity, tourism, and the livelihoods of communities around the lake.
The ceremony connects culture, ecology, livelihood, and community into a single devotional act — a distinctive tradition associated with Kankanashikhari.

Since its inauguration in 2018, the Mahotschab has continued as an annual celebration, growing in scale and participation each year.
