The Sri Jagannatha Katha Lahari, a state-level cultural and spiritual platform created under the Sri Jagannatha Lilakhetra Trust, Kankanashikhari, has completed three years of continuous monthly satsangs since its inception in March 2023.
A Platform for Spiritual Education
Held on every 4th Saturday of each month in Bhubaneswar, the Katha Lahari satsangs bring together scholars, devotees, students, and community members to engage with the deeper philosophical, historical, and social dimensions of Jagannatha culture.
Each session features:
- Scholarly talks on Jagannatha philosophy, history, and traditions
- Recitations from sacred texts and Odia literary heritage
- Community discussions on heritage preservation and social responsibility
- Cultural performances by local artists and student groups
From Research to Community
Dr. Susant Kumar Sahoo established Katha Lahari with a specific purpose: to create a sustainable state-level institution that could promote Jagannatha culture, undertake social initiatives, and connect the scholarly research at Kankanashikhari with a wider urban audience.
Unlike one-time events, the monthly satsang model ensures continuity, building a loyal base of participants who return each month to deepen their understanding of Odisha’s cultural heritage.
The Institutional Vision
Katha Lahari represents a critical link in Dr. Sahoo’s institutional chain: from the parent Sri Jagannatha Lilakhetra Trust, through Katha Lahari (state-level outreach), to the Mandira Samanwoya Bikash Parishad (constituency-level temple coordination). Together, these entities ensure that heritage initiatives are not dependent on any single individual but are sustained through institutional structures.
